Structural Analysis and Control: Course Description

Structural analysis, as used in engineering, is essentially the evaluation of a particular structure (such as a tower, bridge, or aircraft) to determine its soundness. Structural analysis considers many factors in system design, including stresses, internal forces and deformations of a system. Mechanical, civil, structural and architectural engineers, among others, often use structural analysis concepts to perform their work. While structural analysis can be performed on current structures, this course focuses on creating and analyzing computer simulation models. Specific topics discussed in this course include cable-stayed bridges, simulation studies, modeling strategies, nonlinear analysis of trusses and members, tension structures and active structural control theory. An understanding of basic structural analysis is encouraged for participation in this class. Professor Jerome Connor teaches the course in a lecture-style format.

This course includes a complete download of the reference textbook used in the course, lecture notes and assignments. If you are interested in taking this free course, visit the structural analysis course page.
