Seminar on Deep Engagement: Course Description

Although it is difficult to objectively measure the quality of an experience, individuals consistently report a high level of satisfaction and a desire to repeat an experience when they are deeply engaged. It is therefore beneficial to both producers and consumers to achieve deep engagement with an experience, whether an audience member is enjoying a performance or a musician is using and bonding with a high-caliber instrument. In MIT's 'Seminar on Deep Engagement,' students will critically examine the effectiveness of existing metrics of the quality of an experience and explore new tools for measuring and recreating deep levels of audience engagement. The goal of the process is to develop products and interactions that engage people on a profound level and will therefore lead to a richer experience and a customer who is more likely to return. This lecture-based course is taught by MIT professors Cynthia Breazeal and Glorianna Davenport.

Readings and assignments can be found on the OpenCourseWare website, as well as examples of previous student responses and final projects. If you're interested in taking this free course, visit the deep engagement course page.
