Sailing Yacht Design: Course Description
In 'Sailing Yacht Design', Professor Jerome Milgrim begins with an introduction into the theory of hydrostatics, which is extremely crucial to effective yacht design. Hydrostatics includes the level at which the boat is floating, the aft and fore trim and the transverse stability. The transverse stability is linked to the amount of wind strength that can be absorbed from the sails. Students will also learn how to use a CAD program called MaxSurf.
Problem sets, a quiz and information about various projects can be found online for free. For more information on this OpenCourseWare, visit the ocean craft engineering course page.
