Radiation Terror 101: Course Description

As part of an on-going push to educate the people in charge of responding to disasters, Johns Hopkins University has created a course to introduce professionals to radiation.

This material is part of a professional development non-credit training program created by Johns Hopkins faculty and the Center for Public Health Preparedness. It's presented by Environmental Health Sciences Professor Jonathan Links. A format of three slideshows of lecture notes is used. The course's three parts cover the basics for knowing, understanding and reacting to radiation events. Some topics include types of radiation and their occurrences, how exposure affects the body and the effects of certain doses. The course also covers radiation safety and protection, the basics of radiation in terror threats, practical defense and response procedures.

While lecture slides are available through the OpenCourseWare, a version including synchronized audio is available through the Johns Hopkins Center for Public Health Preparedness; simply register for access. If this information interests you, visit the radiation course page.
