Principles of Digital Communication I: Course Description
The 'Principles of Digital Communication I' OpenCourseWare shows students how various communication networks transmit information from one source to the next. The free online course is an introductory-level course for grad students that provides a basic theory and practice in digital, wireless, cable and storage communication systems. The course also demonstrates the use of mathematic principles in engineering designs for digital communication networks in order to separate channel and source codes. The MIT OpenCourseWare is taught by professors Robert Gallager and Lizhong Zheng. The professors discuss topics such as PAM and QAM modulation, data compression, digital communication at the block diagram level, detection, signal constellations and finite-energy waveform spaces. The course was held in a lecture session format twice a week for one hour and 30 minutes. Students interested in taking this course should have previous knowledge in probability and linear systems. 'Principles of Digital Communication I' OpenCourseWare is the first part of a two-course sequence, which is followed by 'Principles of Digital Communication II.'
This OpenCourseWare provides lecture notes, video lectures, assignments, quizzes and study materials. If you are interested in taking this free course, visit the network communication course page.
