Playwrights' Workshop: Course Description

The goal of this OpenCourseWare is to develop writing skills and to encourage writers to work closely with actors and directors. Professor Alan Brody presents this course in a workshop format and provides guidelines for student playwrights. These guidelines include suggestions for keeping a journal and scheduling tips for project revisions. This OpenCourseWare also carries the strong recommendation that participants be active spectators of stage productions. Professor Brody includes a list of historically significant plays that are considered essential readings for honing this craft. Users of this OpenCourseWare can also read through plays written by former on-campus students at MIT.

Former students' plays and the reading list are available online for free. The reading list also includes links to download free resources. More information can be found on the Playwrights' Workshop course home page.
