Introduction to the Philosophy of Language: Course Description
Students taking this free course learn how meanings we derive from statements and actions are more cultural than literal. Discuss examples of natural an unnatural learning in this OpenCourseWare provided by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences in Cambridge, MA. Students identify how statements can be used to imply things and the type of inferences used in different instances. The course also covers language acquisition, truth, meaning and semantics.
