Elements of Mechanical Design: Course Description
MIT Professors Daniel Frey and Amy Smith developed the course materials for 'Elements of Mechanical Design,' which provides Engineering students with a thorough understanding of the principles of mechanical design. Students will be challenged to employ the core disciplines of mechanical engineering as they complete this course. They will also learn the functions and uses of common machine elements. Lecture topics include gears, mechanisms, bearings and electric motors. Students are encouraged to learn the basics of MathCad, an engineering calculation software program. This course is suggested for undergraduate students who have previous knowledge of mechanics, systems, modeling, thermal-fluids engineering and design and manufacturing.
This free OpenCourseWare includes lecture notes, assignments and practice exams as well as a list of recommended textbooks. To download the materials, visit the elements of mechanical design course page.
