Advanced Managerial Communication: Course Description
'Advanced Managerial Communication' is the follow-up to 'Management Communications for Undergraduates,' exploring business communication in more depth. Presentation modalities discussed include meetings, presenting to hostile audiences, cross-cultural communication and communicating with media representatives. Assignments emphasize meeting preparation and executive summaries. PowerPoint slides and notes are included for selected lectures by MIT Sloan professor Neal Hartman. Projects and assignments included with the OpenCourseWare encourage students to practice techniques discussed and to role-play common business scenarios where communication skills are important. 'Advanced Managerial Communication' emphasizes longer forms of written and oral presentations than are covered in the introductory managerial communications class, and situations more likely to be encountered in a management position than while seeking employment. The MIT Sloan course on which the OpenCourseWare is based relied heavily on group participation and simulating business environments for practicing the techniques covered in readings and lectures.
The OpenCourseWare includes a reading list with citations, project guidelines, selected presentation slides and lecture notes. If you are interested in taking 'Advanced Managerial Communication,' download course materials at the business communication course page.
