Managed Care and Health Insurance: Course Description

Patients without health insurance who find themselves in the hospital pay significantly more out of pocket than those with health insurance, even in the cases of minor illness and injury. Johns Hopkins University's School of Public Health provides this free OpenCourseWare, which discusses the variety of available health care plans, trends in health care and the history and effects of managed care on patient populations. Students learn about financial issues related to health insurance and health care and how they affect the insured, the uninsured and health care professionals. Students will also study the history of health care, plans suggested to improve its quality and the possible future of health care in America and around the world. Jonathon Weiner teaches this course about health care insurance, managed care and the associated financial issues.
