Through Linux courses, students learn how to install, administer, upgrade, network and secure Linux systems. Linux Degree Program Details
Linux Certificate Program
Linux certificate programs offer students in-depth instruction in the Linux computer operating system. Classes in these programs tend to focus specifically on Linux and may include other computer science topics only if they relate to Linux. These programs generally take a few months to complete. Students learn how to install, administer and operate Linux systems and may be prepared to sit for industry certification exams, such as the one leading to the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) designation.
Other Linux Programs
Though colleges and universities are not likely to offer degree programs dedicated specifically to Linux, individual Linux courses can be taken through computer science or information technology (IT) degree programs. These courses, which are available along with courses in other computer science subjects, vary in scope but tend to focus on Linux administration, operation, design or maintenance. Some courses are available in two parts offering in-depth instruction while others cover Linux basics. Linux topics may also be covered in other courses, like network security.
