Language and Thought: Course Description

The OpenCourseWare 'Language and Thought' combines ideas from linguistics, cultural, cognitive and developmental psychology along with ethnology and anthropology pertaining to language and its effects on human thoughts. Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professors Lera Boroditsky, Susan Carey and Elizabeth Spelke focus on subjects like language as a selector and constructor, grammatical gender and logical reasoning. This graduate-level course asks thought-provoking questions on topics, like in which language to multilingual individuals think? The course's goal is to help students understand how language acquisition and usages influence methods and trains of thought.
