Information Technology in the Health Care System of the Future: Course Description

'Information Technology in the Health Care of the Future' is a free course taught by staff professors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Students who complete this course will study the concept of economy of scales, cutting edge tools for client care, the latest network-integrated solutions for health care professionals and how to best deliver health care services and products over the Internet. Students will also become familiar with the skills necessary for the design of unique health care delivery system applications. The content is presented over a series of 14 lectures covering a wide range of topics. The initial lecture examines the history of information technology and medicine, and studies the definition of 'cybermedicine.' Subsequent lectures focus on topics that include disease management, electronic records and the future of health care.

The materials for this course include lecture notes and an outline of projects that are available in downloadable PDF files. There is also a bibliographical list of suggested readings.
