Hydrodynamics: Course Description

Hydrostatic pressure, basic principles of fluid mechanics, potential flow theory, free surface water waves and the Froude Krylov excitation force are a few of the topics covered in the 'Hydrodynamics' OpenCourseWare. The course, developed my MIT Professor Alexandra Techet, introduces students to concepts, theories and equations that apply to marine hydrodynamics. Lab exercises illustrate free surface impacts, properties of surface gravity waves and ship resistance testing. Concepts are reinforced through problem sets and readings. This course is designed for undergraduate Mechanical Engineering students with an interest in studying marine hydrodynamics.

The OpenCourseWare includes textbook recommendations, a list of educational links, several readings, lab exercises, problem sets with solutions, formula sheets, example derivations and previous exams with solutions. To download the free course materials or to learn more, visit the marine hydrodynamics course page.
