Human Supervisory Control of Automated Systems: Course Description

This OpenCourseWare offered by the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT in Cambridge, MA, covers all automated systems within our economy that require some form of human supervision. Students learn how human interaction with the system is necessary to make certain that the devices are working according to required specifications. The course explains how human supervision prevents dangerous conditions caused by fault device failure. The material covered will train students in appropriate decision-making processes to deal with different aspects of automated systems, including assessing the level of supervision required for various applications. Engineering professors Dr. Missy Cummins and Dr. John Hansman teach this course.

This OpenCourseWare includes a syllabus, required reading list, lecture notes, project instructions and a download of the course material. Those interested in this free course should visit the Human Supervisory Control of Automated Systems course page.
