Health Issues for Aging Populations: Course Description

'Health Issues for Aging Populations' is an OpenCourseWare series delivered by instructors Lynda Burton and Bruce Leff from the Department of Public Health Policy and Management of Johns Hopkins University located in Baltimore, Maryland. The course's objective is to expose students to a wide range of health challenges that older individuals, health care professionals and society in general must face in the next ten years. This free course is based on 14 lectures that cover several topics, such as the biological and clinical perspectives on aging, the mental health aspects of aging, informal health care for older people, the prevention of disease and federal health care policies for older citizens. Students who complete this course will also look at recent innovations in the health care of chronically ill and older persons and examine the ethical issues related to aging. Many of the lectures include an assortment of statistical charts, tables and graphs that clarify the information and enhances the users' understanding of the material.
