Giving Presentations: Course Description

Presentations usually involve an individual speaking to one or more persons to convey information or make a point. 'Giving Presentations' can help students (or others) to gain skills that can greatly enhance the quality of any presentations they might need to give. This free course is designed to create a framework in which students can learn what makes a good presentation. The emphasis is on preparation and planning. Things to consider when planning a presentation include purpose, audience and location. The course, which is comprised of readings, checklists and activities, also gives attention to the structure of the presentation, which should include an introduction, main body and visual aids. Some other key elements of a presentation are appropriate timing, appearance that the speaker has practiced the talk beforehand and has an understanding of the topic, clear argument or story within the text, as well as an evident beginning, middle and end.
