Fundamentals of Oncology for Public Health Practitioners: Course Description

Students who complete this free course, entitled the 'Fundamentals of Oncology for Public Health Practitioners,' will understand the many varieties of tumors and the effects of different treatment alternatives, the various detection methods and screening of the more common cancers. They will also examine the issues of patients facing terminal illnesses, the quality of currently available cancer treatments and clinical trials. This OpenCourseWare is based on a series of 11 lectures. Bruce Trock of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences is the instructor. Each session focuses on a specific aspect of oncology. The lectures cover topics, including prostate cancer, lung cancer, adult and childhood leukemias and how to best control and treat cancer in underserved areas.
