Ethnic Politics II: Course Description

Developed by Professor Roger Peterson, this free course is geared towards students who are interested in conducting political science research. Students read texts that cover many disciplines, which helps them understand ethnic and social identity research. Students learn about conventional and current research methodologies and study the challenges researchers face when conducting or designing a research project. This OpenCourseWare examines modeling programs, measurement and definition issues, survey techniques and various ethnicity measures, including the ethno-linguistic fractionalization index. Students will demonsrate their understanding by writing a research paper. Students may find it useful to complete 'Ethnic Politics I', which is also OpenCourseWare. This course looks at the theoretical side of ethnic politics. This course is offered through the Political Science Department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

'Ethnic Politics II' OpenCourseWare includes a syllabus, assignment suggestions, modeling software and a detailed reading list. If you're interested in taking this free course, visit the politics and ethnicity course page.
