Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases: Course Description

Infectious diseases, which can range from the smallpox to HIV, will affect virtually everyone around the world. This free OpenCourseware, which can enhance your understanding of epidemiology, is presented by lecturer Kenrad Nelson from the Department of Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health. Students who complete the course will develop an introductory understanding of the field of epidemiology, how to develop effective strategies to fight disease transmission and the creation of criteria for investigating and assessing new diseases. Students will also learn how to minimize transmission through an understanding of transmission vectors, which include air, blood, insects and more. The first step towards fighting and eradicating disease is a background in epidemiology. After completing this course, students will be armed with the skills and knowledge needed to take the next step in the fight against infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, malaria and more.
