Culture and Globalization: Course Description

This course allows students to discover the pros and cons of globalization, including how globalization and culture mesh unevenly. Students also explore how individual nations lose some of their individuality as the world becomes more global, including how cultures and values arrive in conflict. This course is offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)'s School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences in Cambridge, MA, and explores the problems of globalization as the world becomes smaller and cultural differences emerge. The course is ideal for students studying culture or language because it covers how advertisements can be targeted through ethnic and corporate branding. MIT Professor Ian Condry challenges students to take a look at how advertising affects them on a cultural level and identifies various cultural factors and influences.
