Foundations of Computational and Systems Biology: Course Description

'Foundations of Computational and Systems Biology' emphasizes the basics of sequence and structural analysis of DNA, RNA and proteins. Students in this free OpenCourseWare will study DNA motif modeling and sequence evolution along with various models for DNA sequences. They will learn to compare protein structures and master the use of computational methods to analyze, predict and design protein sequences and structures. Students also will encounter the latest research in computational and systems biology. This course is appropriate for advanced undergraduate and graduate students with a basic understanding of biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics. As a part of the MIT Initiative in Computational and Systems Biology, this course is led by MIT Professors Christopher Burge, Amy Keating, Michael Yaffe and Dr. Peter Woolf. Special software is required, and a simplified Chinese translation of this course is available.

Lecture notes, assignments and supporting files, literature discussion quizzes, computational biology tools and resources, and additional study materials are available for free online. If you're interested in taking this course, visit the Foundations of Computational and Systems Biology course page.
