Competitive Decision-Making and Negotiation: Course Description

For students in Masters of Business Administration degree programs who have an interest in improving the important communication and business strategy skills needed for a career in business management, this free course provides negotiation theory and practical bargaining experience. Professor Gordon Kaufman taught this course using a mix of lectures and in-class negotiation exercises. The class' business negotiation scenarios corresponded to topics from lectures, including distributive bargaining, group negotiation and bargaining in an auction setting. Class reading materials gave students a background in fair division bargaining outcomes, using mathematical analysis to prepare for negotiations and applying game theory at the bargaining table. This course also discusses ethical considerations in business negotiations. By the end of this business administration course, students should be able to analyze a negotiation situation, find each party's best alternative to no agreement and effectively negotiate a positive outcome.

This free business negotiation OpenCourseWare includes a reading list, class assignments and lecture outlines. If you would like to access this free course, visit the negotiation and competitive decision-making course page.
