Laboratory in Cognitive Science: Course Description
'Laboratory in Cognitive Science' covers methodology for conducting experiments in cognitive behavior on human subjects. This OpenCourseWare combines lectures, readings and hands-on exercises. Lectures discuss experiment design, potential confounding variables that can be introduced during the experiment, interpreting the results and ethical questions of cognitive experimentation. PowerPoint slides are included summarizing lectures from Professor Aude Oliva of Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Brain and Cognitive Science Department. Assignments prompt students to conduct and write up results from their own experiments. Projects in this OpenCourseWare require MATLAB and Excel. Citations and links to readings are provided. Readings cover highlights of cognitive science research. 'Laboratory in Cognitive Science' targets undergraduate level students in experimental psychology and neuroscience.
