Cartoon Animation Bachelor's Degree

Cartoon animation bachelor's degrees are often offered through a school's film, digital art or graphic design program. Students in cartoon animation bachelor's degree programs learn animation skills ranging from basic traditional methods, like cel animation and claymation, to advanced digital animation techniques using digital media. These programs generally also include instruction in other disciplines, like painting and creative writing, that help students develop their ability to create scripts and images used in animation.

Cartoon Animation Master's Degree

Students in master's degree programs in cartoon animation take advanced classes that offer instruction in new animation techniques, storyboarding, advanced history of animation and computer programming classes that can be used to develop new animation methods. Master's-level cartoon animation programs focus on giving students the broad foundation of knowledge in cinema, television and cartoon history and production necessary to become successful animators. Depending on the school, graduates of these programs earn Master of Fine Arts or Master of Art degrees.

Cartoon Animation Doctoral Degree

Cartoon animation doctoral degree programs tend to focus on a student's dissertation, which includes written study in addition to an original animated work. Cartoon animation doctoral degrees might be offered through a media arts program requiring students to take advanced and special topics classes in a variety of media subjects, including cinema history, script writing and cinematic technique. Doctoral candidates in cartoon animation programs may also work with professors to develop new animation techniques using computer programs or new cinematic technology. A Ph.D. student may write a dissertation about this original research.
