Broadcasting the news involves various broadcasting professionals, including news anchors, producers, writers and technical personnel. A bachelor's degree program in broadcasting prepares individuals for these types of positions. Students learn how news stories are gathered, produced and aired via television, radio and other multimedia outlets.

Broadcasting Degree Program Enrollment Requirements

College admission requirements usually require several general components for enrollment consideration. Applicants of a broadcasting degree program must submit a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) transcript. An applicant's secondary school transcript is also necessary to verify completion of all necessary college preparatory classes. Colleges also request an applicant's scores from the Scholastic Attitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) examination and compare these with the applicant's academic record. Many broadcasting degree programs also request a letter of recommendation from an applicant's guidance counselor and a personal essay from the applicant.

Broadcasting Degree Program Completion Requirements

Upon acceptance into a broadcasting degree program, students are immersed in the cable, film, television, radio and Internet news industry. They study all aspects of mass communication, including technological equipment and programming strategies. Students take courses in news writing, copywriting, audio and video production, broadcast journalism and multimedia management. They may also study communication theory, electronic media, mass communication in society and media ethics and law.

Internships at the college's cable network or local broadcasting stations provide students with practical broadcasting experience and sometimes lead to full-time employment upon graduation. Upon completion of a 4-year bachelor's degree program in broadcasting, students may find entry-level employment as broadcasters, news writers, assignment desk editors, assistant producers or reporters with various news outlets.
