Details of Audio Production Degree Programs

Associate's Degree in Audio Production

Associate's degree programs (usually an Associate of Applied Science) in audio production are designed to introduce students to the equipment and techniques used in recording studios. These programs generally take 1-2 years to complete and are available as part-time programs at some schools.

Bachelor's Degree in Audio Production

Students in audio production bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Art or Bachelor of Science) learn about theatre and music along with taking courses in engineering technology and computer science. They may take courses in mechanical operations, computer applications, electronics, electro-acoustics and acoustics. Courses may include techniques of a recording studio, MIDI sequencing, audio fundamentals and studio production.

Master's Degree in Audio Production

Depending on the program, master's degree programs in audio production might focus more on music theory or electrical engineering aspects of audio production. Programs may grant Master of Art (M.A.) degrees or Master of Music (M.M.) degrees. Programs granting M.M. degrees may also include composition or music writing components into their curricula. Students in a master's audio production program take advanced courses in digital audio processing, music acoustics and theory of digital signal.
