Algebraic Topography II: Course Description
'Algebraic Topography II,' developed by MIT Professor Mark Behrens, consists of 33 lectures and 12 assignments. The course begins with a discussion of category theory and progresses through various topics, such as pointed spaces and homotopy groups, cofibers, the Whitehead theorem and cellular approximation, spectral sequences and line bundle. It concludes with a lecture on Chern classes and elementary symmetric polynomials. While no text is required for the course, some of the problems and the lecture notes reference Allen Hatcher's Algebraic Topology, J. P. May's A Concise Course in Algebraic Topology and others, as noted in the syllabus. Students should complete 'Algebraic Topology I' before attempting this course.
This OpenCourseWare includes lecture notes and assignments. For more information on this free course, visit the algebraic topology II course site.
