Oregon State University was first founded as a private academy in 1858. It is now one of only two universities holding land, sea, space and sun grant titles. The school is also a strong research university, with a projected $250 million in funded research each year. More than 2,000 undergraduates at Oregon State University take part in graduate and faculty research projects each year.

The school also offers a number of opportunities for graduate students, providing graduate degree programs in over 100 areas of study. These range from adult education and creative writing to zoology.

Oregon State University is situated on a 400-acre campus in the small town of Corvallis, Oregon and is surrounded by forests and parks. Facilities and buildings unique to the university include the Center for Gene Research and Biotechnology, Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory, Hatfield Marine Science Center and Environmental Health Sciences Center.

All Oregon State University undergraduate students participate in a core curriculum focused on world cultures, writing, the arts, sciences, literature, diversity and global awareness.
