Advanced Workshop in Writing for Social Sciences and Architecture (ELS): Course Description
Strong writing skills can help guide any student or professional to greater success in his or her career. In MIT's 'Advanced Workshop in Writing for Social Sciences and Architecture (ELS),' students discover writing mistakes that are common to even advanced English speakers and how to identify and correct errors in their own work. The course covers punctuation and grammar, as well as stylistic issues of voice and word choice. Students write and analyze a variety of academic and professional documents, including cover letters, article reviews and research proposals. Throughout the course, students explore different aspects of the writing process, from outline to revision. This course is taught by Professor Patricia Brennecke of the Foreign Languages and Literature Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
