Urban Studies and Planning: Cardener River Corridor Workshop: Course Description

This free OpenCourseWare examines the challenges of developing the Cardener River Corridor, located in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in Catalunya, Spain. The course explores opportunities for conservation, recreation and tourism while addressing concerns about the amount of water available from the river and its quality. Urban Studies and Planning students in this graduate course utilize environmental, landscape planning and other urban design skills to develop plans that enhance and develop the river corridor while minimizing effects on regional culture and natural resources. This course, led by MIT Professor Bishwapriya Sanyal, was co-developed by MIT, the Polytechnic University of Catalunya, Spain, and the Barcelona Provincial Council.

Lecture notes, case studies and examples of student group presentations are available for free online. If you're interested in taking this course, visit the course page for special studies in urban studies & planning.
