Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Materials: Course Description

'Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Materials' OpenCourseWare examines materials processes and materials from the standpoint of kinetics and thermodynamics. On the thermodynamics side, the course looks at equilibrium diagrams, solution theory and laws of thermodynamics. From the kinetics perspective, the course examines microstructure development, phase transformations and diffusion. Professors Samuel Allen and Professor Thomas Eagar taught the original course as lectures with student recitations. This course was part of a graduate program in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT.

Materials for this OpenCourseWare include .pdf files of lecture slides, lecture summaries, assignments plus some answers for the kinetic portion only, error function data table, a recitation and sample exams for download plus a list of reference texts. To learn more and perhaps take this online course, visit the materials and their processes kinetics and thermodynamics course page.
