Satellite Engineering: Course Description

'Satellite Engineering' examines he subsystems used in spacecraft, such as the Kepler telescope. Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel John E. Kessee and Professor David Miller begin their instruction by examining launch systems. Students also learn about the requirements of launching a satellite, such as staging requirements, system characteristics, spacecraft requirements and budget constraints. This course also covers orbital mechanics and propulsion. The course includes three lectures covering requirements for optical equipment on board a satellite. Students learn about all facets of satellite systems design, including structures in spaces systems and satellite software engineering. This class is presented in lecture format and requires Excel, MATLAB and Winzip software to access certain documents.

Lecture notes, study materials, suggested readings and assignments are available online for free for this course. If you would like to take advantage of this free course, visit the Satellite Engineering course page.
