Quantum Physics I: Course Description

This free course is for students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Physics. It examines quantum and wave mechanics as a foundation for future study. This lecture-formatted OpenCourseWare also provides foundational insight on quantum mechanics for experimentation. Professor Vladan Vuletic leads students through general and specific topics exploring both quantum mechanics and wave mechanics. Topics relevant to quantum mechanics will include Compton scattering, the Franck-Hertz experiment and electron diffraction. The portion of this OpenCourseWare dedicated to wave mechanics will cover wave functions, wave packets and the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. Emphasis will be placed on Schrödinger's equation and its applications in both one and three dimensions. Recommended prerequisites for this course are 'Vibrations and Waves' and 'Differential Equations', which are available as OpenCourseWare.
