Optical Signals, Devices and Systems: Course Description

'Optical Signals, Devices and Systems' is a free OpenCourseWare from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This course focuses on the basics of optical signals and modern optical systems and devices. Students will come to understand, analyze and predict the design and performance of optical systems and devices. The course covers sources of optical systems, light modulation components, transmission media, photodetectors, information storage technologies, processing systems and displays. Other topics investigated include lasers, liquid-crystal light modulators, optical disks and LCOS microdisplays. Professor Cardinal Warde of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department teaches this graduate-level course.
