Mental Health Practice (Bonnyrigg) Course Description:
As part of The Open University's Health and Lifestyle department, 'Mental Health Practice (Bonnyrigg)', teaches students to recognize the aspects of mental health and mental illnesses, various theoretical models of mental health treatment and the function of social work within mental health. The class focuses on four main subject areas, including definitions and understanding of mental health and illness, skills needed for social work, discrimination in mental health and the role social workers play in treating mental health illnesses. Specific course topics include the presence of racism in mental health, the variety of practicing mental health professionals, the stigma facing those suffering from mental health disorders and the professional skills needed to work with mentally ill patients. This undergraduate-level course is expected to take 10 hours to complete.
