History of Science: Course Description

This OpenCourseWare offered by the Department of Science, Technology and Society at MIT in Cambridge, MA, begins in the 17th century and follows through to the present time. The course covers all the sciences, including physics, chemistry and biology. Students learn about specific scientists, such as Galileo, and specific topics, such as the scientific revolution. However, the course also emphasizes the evolution of general scientific theory and changing techniques in science research. Readings also include a number of historiographies to give students a broad range of views on the progression of science. Social sciences professor Dr. David Jones teaches this course.
