Intermediate Heat and Mass Transfer: Course Description

'Intermediate Heat and Mass Transfer' focuses on the problems and complexities of heat and mass transfer and gives emphasis to analysis using correlations. The advanced-level course materials assume some understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. Topics include modes of heat transfer, lumped capacity, multidimensional conduction, laminary boundary layers, turbulence and gray body networks. Using the course materials developed by Professor Bora Mikic of MIT, students interested in thermal science gain a solid understanding of heat and mass transfer processes as well as their applications to various technologies. Students are encouraged to work with MATLAB's PDEToolbox software tool to explore numerical simulation of heat-conduction.

OpenCourseWare materials include a list of recommended readings and bibliography, an online textbook, downloadable guide to the MATLAB PDETool software used for numerical simulation, reference materials and a list of related resource links. For more information, or to download the free course materials, visit the intermediate heat and mass transfer course page.
