Grammar of a Less Familiar Language: Course Description
Zazaki is spoken in three main dialects and exclusive to provinces in Turkey. Professor Michael Kenstowicz and Professor Norvin W. Richards will work with students to examine the morphology, phonology and suface syntax of such an obscure language. Students will learn to determine the grammatical structure of the language. After pinpointing a particular grammatical component, such as questions or agreement, each student will focus on that component and write a report due at the end of the course. Scholars will also learn the phonological correspondences of Zazaki and related languages, such as Kurdish. This course is in lecture form and contains group sessions and individual meetings with an advisor.
