Educational Theory and Practice I: Course Description
This free OpenCourseWare is the first of three in a sequence designed to mold undergraduate students into future high school teachers. Students begin this course by analyzing themselves as learners and teachers.
They go on to learn about building personal relationships, planning and conducting lessons and communicating with secondary school students. They study various teaching models and principles of learning and develop the skills needed to maintain an appropriate level of student behavior in their classrooms. Students also learn about curriculum development, teaching standards and state licensure requirements. Led by MIT Professors Reen Gibb and Eric Klopfer, this course is geared toward undergraduate students in the urban studies and planning program.
Assignments and a basic primer on disabilities are available for free online. If you're interested in taking this course, visit the educational theory and practice I course page.
