Doctoral Seminar in Research Methods - I: Course Description
Unlike other courses, this class eschews the study of specific research techniques, but instead focuses on the issues surrounding graduate -level and professional research. Students explore the topics presented in MIT's 'Doctoral Seminar in Research Methods - I' through a series of readings. These readings center on research issues, such as sampling selections, research ethics, causality and causal inference and positivism and non-positivism. Students will also study the logic of experimentation, measurement, validity and reliability. This introductory course, originally presented by Professors Lotte Bailyn and Jesper B. Sorensen, deals with the logic and assumptions of good empirical research. Students will learn different approaches to research design. This graduate-level course is presented by the MIT Sloan School of Management.
This free course includes a list of readings and bibliography along with descriptions of several assignments. If you are interested in completing this OpenCourseWare, visit the doctoral seminar in research methods course page.
