Out of Context: A Course on Computer Systems That Adapt to, and Learn from, Context: Course Description

Early models of computing used a traditional input-output approach to hardware and software design. Newer computers and devices, such as cell phones or interactive applications, should be able to gather information from their environment that allows them to anticipate a user's interests and actions. To assemble this kind of flexible data, computers must be sensitive to context. 'Out of Context: A Course on Computer Systems That Adapt to, and Learn from, Context' explores context and how it is used in new research in computing intelligence. The course will examine the meaning of context from a philosophical as well as a technological point of view, and consider how a theoretical understanding can be applied to the development of more adaptive and responsive computers. This graduate-level Computer Science course is taught by MIT Professor Henry Lieberman.

Course readings, downloadable lecture notes and previous student projects are available on the course website. To learn more about this free course, visit the adaptive computer systems course page.
