Communication System Design: Course Description

The 'Communication System Design' OpenCourseWare shows students the various concepts in algorithms, communication theory and implementation architectures that are used for communications system design. Students could also learn about decoders, coders, filters, synchronization sub-systems and multi-tone modulation. Some of the course topics include digital communications, ASIC design fundamentals, theory and building blocks and wireless channel fundamentals. The on-campus course in 2006 included a project that implemented a variety of communication techniques, architectures and algorithms based on WLAN transceivers. The WLAN project involved MIT students in the course working with the WLAN System-On-a-Chip design process to the very end of the standard-cell RTL chip representation. The on-campus course was taught by MIT Professor Vladimir Stojanovic in 2006; it consisted of lecture sessions held twice a week followed by tutorial sessions once a week.
