Classical Drama and Theatre: Course Description

During this course, Utah State University Professor Mark Damen, Ph.D., examines the relationship between ancient Greek and Roman dramas. Focusing on both major and minor authors of classical works, 'Classical Drama and Theatre' will immerse you in the theatrical tradition of the era and also emphasize the historical and political context of such works. Works studied in the course include Phaedra, Bacches and traditional Greek tragedies by Sophocles and Aeschylus, among others. This undergraduate-level course will help students to develop an understanding of the art, society and history of classical civilizations.
