Chinese III (streamlined): Course Description

Students in 'Chinese III (streamlined)', which builds on the two previous elementary Chinese language courses, develop intermediate reading and writing skills to match their spoken Mandarin abilities. Professor Jin Zhang taught this lecture course in MIT's Foreign Languages and Literatures department to students pursing a minor in the Chinese language. 'Chinese III (streamlined)' students work on expanding the number of characters that they can write and recognize on sight, and also learn more complex grammatical patterns. In addition, 'Chinese III (streamlined)' students study and discuss key events in recent Chinese history like the May Fourth Movement and learn about Chinese cultural icons like Mao Dun and Ba Jin.

'Chinese III (streamlined)' OpenCourseWare includes downloadable assignments, end-of-semester essay directions, a practice exam and links to numerous course-related resources. If you are interested in taking this free course, visit the intermediate Mandarin Chinese course page.
