Business Analysis and Financial Statements: Course Description
The Sloan School of Management at MIT in Cambridge, MA, offers this OpenCourseWare class to teach people outside of a company to use its financial statements in performance analysis. While financial statements can be used by internally to determine performance, competitiveness, investments and valuation of targets, this course is designed for those outside a company. Future employees taking this course can use financial statements to determine whether a company will meet its payroll and what stock options are worth. Analysts skills provided by this course are used to make stock recommendations. Lenders use these skills to make loan and monitoring decisions and investment bankers use them to make valuations. By the end of the course, students should be able to use financial statements in their jobs and on interviews. Business professor Dr. Peter Wysocki teaches this course. Students need an Internet connection and Microsoft Excel to read data spreadsheets.
