Architectural Design Level I (Perceptions and Processes): Course Description

Successful architects must learn the concepts of building design and how to creatively organize materials and components into livable structures. MIT instructors utilize hands-on projects to allow students to transfer representational information to mapping form. Professor Meejin Yoon teaches this course, which begins with drift drawings and serial notations and ends with mapping instruments and land form processes. The course format is an individual studio; a collection of projects is listed on the course website. The studio format offers a hands-on approach to transferring class concepts to tangible drafting tasks. The course projects will take you from exploring drawing as a device to constructing drawing devices at a 1:1 scale. The architectural design studio will evaluate the idea of perception and intervention in marking a location. These OpenCourseWare materials are utilized in an on-campus MIT Architecture course, but the OpenCourseWare content doesn't necessarily replicate the MIT course in its entirety.

This course includes various class exercises and studio assignments, as well as examples of student projects. If you're interested in these free online course materials, visit the Architectural Design course page.
