Architectural Construction and Computation: Course Description

Architectural design requires creativity, knowledge and the ability to construct buildings and other structures that are functional, safe and visually appealing. 'Architectural Construction and Computation' focuses on teaching students about the techniques of advanced computer technology in the field of architectural design and construction. This free course is provided by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Department of Architecture and is taught by Professors Lawrence Sass and Joel Turkel. Students will work with computer models to gain an understanding of design testing protocols. They will also examine construction from a variety of perspectives, including structural design computational issues and legal challenges. The lab section of 'Architectural Construction and Computation' contains several files that will introduce students to the Digital Project design software. The course assignments are designed to enhance students' comprehension and include problem sets on parametric modeling, drawing and digital modeling.

The materials for this OpenCourseWare include downloadable recitations, labs and assignments. If you would like to take advantage of this free course, visit the architectural design course page.
