'High-Intermediate Academic Communication: Course Details
'High-Intermediate Academic Communication' intends to build your vocabulary, polish your grammar and show you how to write a better essay. This free OpenCourseWare is offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and adapted from lectures delivered by Professor Isaiah WonHo Yoo in the spring semester of 2004. Drawing on stories and models from newspapers, TV shows and websites, 'Academic Communication' challenges your speech-making and essay-writing skills through a series of readings and short assignments. Upon completing the course, you should feel more confident in constructing an argument, leading discussions, making presentations and writing articles and essays. Readings provide instruction in the rules of grammar, like clauses and proper punctuation while assignments require carefully constructed essays in response to a prompt. This online class is part of a Bachelor of Arts in Communications or Bachelor of Arts in Language and Literature curriculum. However, students of all majors and backgrounds can benefit from the course.
